Re: Regarding financing of SPIS
Dear Zelalem, Ideally each SPIS scheme (no matter small or large) should have finance strategy. Normally the financial sources are three in numbers called 3Ts (Tax/public, Tariff and Transfer/grants). To me Transfer or grants shall be diverted to capital expenditure, public sector investment to purc...

Re: Self-Test 1: Sustainable Water Management - Excessive water pumping
Yes Rashid, you are absolutely correct - and lowering the water table will continue unfortunately in many places. Bad examples are many, in India I have seen long time ago the first reports of really excessive ground water lowering of 100 m and more. One idea is to get everybody involved in abstrac...

Re: Self-Test 1: Sustainable Water Management - Possible health impacts of irrigation
I agree Tanoh. In case the irrigation grid are not lined and water is leaking persistently, it may cause water logging and salinity and thus desertification. This is true for riparian agriculture. The statistic determined by UNO is alarming: search it further

Re: Most relevant aspect for you in Module 1
Dears,
Module 1 is greatly presented to understand the concepts. It sounds good for rural context however, I fear it does not address the complexities of SPIS in urban and fragile context. This could be the next version of SPIS .
Best,
Rashid

Hi, Great automated tool to know and FAO tools collection website, thanks SPIS team for letting us know. Just a small enquiry to understand the tool better are, 1. Self-Test 1: Sustainable Water Management - Possible health impacts of irrigation
To me irrigation itself is good for health (living environment) but unsustainable irrigation system or SPIS resulted into standing water, water pond and marshes which in turn remain breading ground for pathogens that result into 4 types of diseases i.e. 1 water born 2 water wash 3 water based and 4 ...

Self-Test 1: Sustainable Water Management - Excessive water pumping
Hi All, Excessive water pumping is an issue of particular concern in the urban setting in developing countries (urban slums). In my context, the construction of unplanned commercial plazas in residential areas lead to conflicts and dependence on tanker mafias. This is huge setback to urban forming w...
